Abstract

Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) refers to the application of advanced space age technology to the mobility and safety problems of transportation. In general, human factors is concerned with properly fitting the role of the human into systems where humans and machines must work together to successfully accomplish some objective. In the case of ITS, human factors research addresses efficiency and safety issues pertaining to the design of in-vehicle displays and controls, driver behavior issues concerning the design of traffic management systems, and operator issues pertaining to the operation of transportation information centers.
