Abstract

General managers, operations managers, chiefs of police, maintenance managers, information technology managers, and communications specialists responsible for communications systems within transit organizations should all receive valuable information from this paper. It provides information on the implementation of a total communications solution to meet the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's (WMATA's) requirements for a single radio system to support its Metrobus, Metrorail, police department, and all maintenance disciplines. Also provided by the report is more detailed technical information for communications specialists on the trunked, simulcast radio system infrastructure and user equipment. WMATA will be the first United States transit agency to implement a comprehensive and integrated system for police, bus, rail, and maintenance.
