Abstract

This paper discusses the evolution of existing ship types and attempts to make some predictions concerning types that may appear in the near future. The latter will be characterized by improved design of special equipment, e.g., of cargo handling gear, and by the development of the vessel per se into a comprehensive energy saving system with extremely high efficiency.
