Abstract
Many people live in areas with a very high traffic noise level and most of these people live in built-up urban areas, where the planning situation has already passed, so there is no longer any possibility of placing the roads and the houses at a suitable distance from each other in relation to the traffic. In these areas there is most often only the possibility of making costly solutions that will reduce the worst of the noise. In this paper some of the possibilities of reducing the traffic noise in these areas are described and the time required before these means will be effective is estimated.
