Inside the British Police: A Force at Work

This is a view of the British police at work. Simon Holdaway, once a police sergeant and now a lecturer in sociology, undertook much of the research while still in uniform. Working within a busy city station, he was able to record the day-to-day frustrations, boredom and excitement of ordinary policemen. He has provided a graphic and sometimes disturbing picture of the law in action.
