Abstract

The article defines a roundabout as a road construction consisting of a circular to egg-shaped carriageway that is wide enough to allow for one or more lines of vehicles to pass, with at least two roads joining this circular carriageway. Following three families of variables are used to define the geometry of a roundabout: traffic composition; traffic fluidity on and capacity of the roundabout; and type of road.
