Abstract

The Motor Carrier Act of 1980 and the Staggers Act of 1980 deregulated both the motor carrier industry and the railroad industry, respectively. The simultaneous deregulation of these industries led to shifts in intermodal freight transportation. This chapter explores the effects of intermodal transportation shifts on the safety of freight transportation.
