Abstract

This Paper deals with the results of an origin-destination intra-city travel survey conducted in Delhi in the year 1969 by household interview. The population characteristics, existing travel demands, travel characteristics of the journey made by the residents within the study area and the factors influencing the travel patterns in the city have been discussed. The study also reveals the role of socio-economic factors in the choice of mode of transport and travel characteristics. It also points out the need of improving the mass transportation system for achieving a desirable transportation balance. /Author/
