Abstract
In spite of a long and successful history in construction of rural roads, the performance of some newly constructed sections of road was not good and necessitated the Country Roads Board of Victoria to review its pavement construction technique. The process which the CRB has adopted to achieve high strength flexible pavement is based on a total uniformity concept achieved by a careful review of all aspects from design of the pavement to monitoring the constructed pavement in the operating condition. This paper briefly amplifies the current approach adopted when constructing pavements on major rural highway work.
