The law, road safety and litigation risks

There are a myriad of laws regulating road safety in Queensland. Despite this, statistics show that the number of road fatalities continues to increase. Accordingly, with this increasing trend, the issue of road safety for all road users including motorists, motorcyclists, bicycle riders, pedestrians and even animals is a critical one for not only regulatory authorities but also employers and other persons who carry on their business which may impact upon the safety of road users. This paper will focus on the interaction between workplace health and safety laws in Queensland and road safety and in particular, consider the issue of construction activity on roads and safety management.
