Abstract

Three documents about the Peruvian Amazon are compiled: The discovery of the Amazon by Porras Barrenechea, The Amazon and the peruanidad written by Victor Andres Belaunde, and the Discourse of Dr. Raul Porras Barrenechea at the inauguration of the Amazon Exhibition in Lima, June 1, 1943. Addresses the relationship between the Incas and the Amazon River as part of the geography of Inca Peru, discusses the two entries of the Spanish expeditions to the Amazon, and argues that the expeditions to the Amazon River of the sixteenth century departed from Cuzco Analyze the process of modernization, industrialization and economic integration of the Amazon driven by the Peruvian government. Includes annex with presidential decree and communiques about the Peruvian Amazon.
