TESTS AND ANALYSES HAVE SHOWN THAT CONCRETE PAVEMENT SHOULD BE DESIGNED ON THE FOLLOWING PRINCIPLES: THICKENED EDGE; SMOOTH SUBGRADE; SMOOTH TOP SURFACE; CENTER JOINT FOR TWO LANE PAVEMENT; SUFFICIENT THICKNESS FOR A MARGIN OF SAFETY TO RESIST BENDING STRESSES.
