Abstract

A 30-year half cent sales tax extension dedicated to a number of high priority transit projects received a resounding go-ahead at the polls as voters in Santa Clara County responded to the long and frustrating commutes. The Transit Authority's challenges and strategies for implementing a new program are discussed in this paper. Some of the planning includes how local cities and private developers are planning to cooperate to help fund transit improvements and implement transit oriented development to increase ridership. The critical role the business community's support has played in passing this funding measure is emphasized.
