Abstract

The paper shows and analyses the legal framework of functioning of (state) port authorities according to the Croatian Maritime Domain and Seaport Act (2003) and regulations passed under it. (State) port authorities are founded by the Croatian Government in order to manage, build and use a port open for public transport which is of special (international) economic interest of the Republic of Croatia. The activities of a port authority are to take care of maritime property which presents the port territory, building, maintaining, professional surveillance of certain port territory, insuring performance of port traffic, technical and technological unity, navigation safety and services of general interest and coordination and supervision of the work of the concession holder on the port area.
