Abstract
The application of deicing chemicals to roads is a required winter maintenance method in order to maintain traffic safety. The amount of deicing chemicals that is applied to the roads has increased year by year with the prohibition of studded tires. However, there is much concern of the environmental impact of the deicing chemicals as well to ensure traffic safety in the winter. This paper examines deicing chemicals scatter patterns and quantities of road runoff through experiments and field research.
