Abstract
The major part of the suburban road networks in EEC countries consist of single, two lane carriageways. To ensure a fluid and safe traffic flow on this type of road it is necessary to provide a sufficient number of sections for safe overtaking. In the geometric design standards of most countries there are procedures for calculating visibility distances for the purpose of overtaking. Based on an analysis of such calculations a diagram is presented for the design of minimum overtaking distances on the type of road in question.
