Abstract
The forecast of the development of car ownership or the rate of motorisation as a coefficient of car ownership related to population is one of the most important bases for the estimation of future traffic development. As several car ownership forecasts are available for Austria, the results of these were placed in chronological sequence and compared with work carried out in the last 10 years. As clear differences arose between the individual forecasts an attempt was made, based on the development of car and estate car ownership from 1955 to 1977, to estimate the future car ownership development in Austria.
