Abstract

Taking care of the transportation of disabled and elderly people and providing public transport services in rural areas is a great challenge to the society. One way to ease this problem is to use Demand Responsive Transport Services. With the help of new telematic applications it is possible to optimise the movement of vehicles. The fleet is optimised so that the vehicles are moving only when and where they are needed. Timetables, routes and vehicle sizes are chosen according to the real need. The fleet is managed in Travel Dispatch Centres with Demand Responsive Transport System. The wide concept and technology of DRTS was developed and further evaluated in SAMPO and SamPlus EU projects. The commercial product MobiRouter (a travel combining and dispatching system) was also developed on the basis of SAMPO project. For the covering abstract see IRRD E102946.
