Abstract
In 1948, the people of Louisville, Kentucky, made it be known that they desired improvements in traffic movement and traffic accident rates. The mayor of the city initiated development of city-wide plans to meet the desires of the people. This article discusses the steps taken. Topics covered include repaving of streets, one-way streets, unbalanced traffic flow (traffic in traffic lanes moving in different directions, depending on the time of day), traffic signals, street lighting, signs and markings, parking, off-street parking, and additional plans (including installation of No Left Turn regulations).
