Abstract
Laminar boundary-layer separation at a backward-facing step of a flat plate has been investigated with Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV). The experiments focused on velocity perturbations induced in the separation region by arrays of roughness elements spaced on the model surface close to the separation line. As a result, the perturbed separated-flow flow pattern is clarified being in fairly good agreement with that which was observed through hot-wire measurements performed under similar experimental conditions in similar flow configurations.
