A METHOD FOR DETERMINING THE THICKNESS REQUIRED OF AN ASPHALT CONCRETE OVERLAY ON AN ASPHALT PAVEMENT IS DESCRIBED. THE METHOD IS BASED ON A STUDY OF BENKELMAN BEAM PAVEMENT DEFLECTIONS AND IS SUPPORTED BY ELASTIC THEORY, FIELD OBSERVATIONS, AND ENGINEERING EXPERIENCE. /AUTHOR/
