A new gecko of the genus Gonydactylus (Sauria: Gekkonidae) with a key to the species from Vietnam

Abstract

Gonydactylus paradoxus sp.nov from a small off-shore island in South Vietnam distinctly differs from all other known species of the genus Gonydactylus in the absence of preanal and femoral pores in males and females.The occurrence in a new insular species of a feature so unusual for the genus Gonydactylus may be an external manifestation of founder effect sensu E. Mayr ( 1942).
