THE OPERATION OF THE TRAFFIC CONTROL CENTER USING THE VARIABLE TRAFFIC DISPLAY SYSTEM

Abstract

In November 1974, Aichi Prefectural Police Headquarters established a traffic control center. In June 1994, the control center was moved and updated, as the old center could not keep up with the change in traffic conditions with antiquated equipment. The new center is equipped with leading edge technologies and systems to solve these problems. The traffic information display panel is the centerpiece of the new facility. The multiscreen display system combines 48 screens of 1.27 m rear projection display. The operators select input for the system to display and select the size and position on the display panel. This function is called variable traffic information display system. Display maps are generated by computer. Computer generation allows easy enhancement, such as map updating and enlargement of the control area. This paper describes the operation of variable traffic information display systems and their advantages for traffic management.
