Abstract

The aim of this study is to highlight problem areas and need for knowledge concerning the environmental impact of aviation. The study has been supported by a reference group with representatives of several Swedish government and research organizations. A substantial amount of literature has been reviewed. The future development of propulsion technology will be important. The study points out the need for more knowledge about the dispersion of pollutions and their impact on the atmosphere and also about the influence of the flight procedures. Finally, a research policy and subjects for research and development are proposed.
