Abstract
A review of transit accessibility measures showed that the manual computation of transit accessibility indexes could be a time consuming and tedious process. However, there is a possibility that the computation can be done automatically by computer if suitable software was available. The major requirement is the development of a computer network model for calculating trip times. A schedule based network model has been selected for development mainly because this type of model has rarely been used for transit network modelling. The characteristics of this model, as compared to conventional headway based models, are discussed. The model has been adopted in a computer package. The package is considered to be a useful tool for the computation of transit accessibility indexes, especially when the indexes are to be used for the short range evaluation of existing transit systems operating to fixed schedules. The characteristics of the computer package and its capabilities are briefly described (a).
