Abstract

This article describes plans for the implementation for the city of Melbourne, Australia, to have an electronic toll collection system up and running by the year 2000. The system, designed to allow tolling at highway speeds, will offer the following subsystems: transponder tag, roadside tolling equipment, communications, toll central computer, revenue management, and customer interface.
