Abstract

Examines the various aspects of the Intelligent Vehicle Highway Systems dream, the general plans for its fulfillment, and the needed technological developments. Describes goals of IVHS programs and provides brief background information on various activities including DRIVE, AMTICS, RACS, and IVHS America. Identifies the four main areas of IVHS in the U.S.: advanced traffic management systems; advanced traveler information systems; commercial vehicle operations systems; and, advanced vehicle control systems.
