Abstract
The size and shape of vehicle headlamps for night driving have an influence on the sight distance and glare. Manufacturing tolerances cause brightness outside the bright - dark boundaries. Changes in the dipping of these limits as a result of various loading conditions of a vehicle and its influence on the sight distance and glare are discussed as well as principles of the light adjustment of headlamps. In the case of manual adjustments, a compromise between adjustment accuracy and operation is necessary. For cars with a higher variation in the type of loading, only automatic systems are of use in practice. (TRRL)
