Abstract

The purpose of this report is to examine strategic options for enhancing rail service in Pennsylvania. It reviews current conditions, trends, and forces shaping rail transport in Pennsylvania, and develops short- and long-term options for action by the Center for Rural Pennsylvania. Chapters in the report include a survey of current Pennsylvania passenger rail alternatives, a summary of Pennsylvania rail transit studies, a review of European Passenger rail systems, a review of passenger rail policies in other states, a discussion of successful passenger rail service, and strategic options for enhancing passenger rail service in Pennsylvania.
