Abstract
This paper summarises usage and applications of concrete pavements in Australia and comments on some of the reasons for their restricted use in the past and their potential as an alternative pavement surface in the future. Whilst the applications of concrete pavements can extend to both high and low speed roads as well as industrial premises, their use on high speed roads is extremely restricted. The main advantages of concrete pavements are their lower maintenance costs compared to flexible pavements, and the need to conserve supplies of aggregate and crushed rock. Some of the problems associated with the use of concrete pavements are discussed, and the need for more discussion and research into the potential use of concrete as a pavement surface is emphasized. /TRRL/
