Abstract

A 1200dwt high speed container ship with a service speed of 45 knots has been developed with a series of model tests in a towing tank. As a result of a parametric trade-off study, a catamaran hull type was selected. The hull form development and preliminary design including structural design, propulsion system arrangement and hull outfitting arrangement was carried out and model tests were performed in both calm water and regular waves. To reduce wave- induced motions, bow fins were equipped and tested in a high-speed towing tank. A comparison of the hull form performance with waterjet propulsion and with a propeller was also studied through the model tests. The results of the preliminary design and model tests are presented.
