Abstract

The purpose of this article is to present the urgent need for various controls that are available to us to arrest the rising tide of road traffic accidents. First of all, we have to recognize the avoidance of road traffic accidents as a goal that is achievable. Once the goal is recognized, all other activities may be seen in their true perspective. Right now we must try to tighten up in those areas of control that are available to us. These include communication, driver awareness, design, new devices, limitation of driver choice, maintenance of flow, and upgrading of current control measures.
