TRANSPORTATION FOR PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES IN RURAL PENNSYLVANIA: A NEW SERVICE PARADIGM

Abstract

The Pennsylvania Governor's disability Agenda, issued in May 1997, included a directive to form a Rural Transportation Work Group to: identify problems faced by persons with disabilities when the lack of transportation services exists; inventory existing transportation systems in rural areas; and develop recommendations as appropriate, The paper provides a detailed overview of the recommended transportation pilot in 8 counties across the state. The pilot's purpose is to assess the costs and benefits of transportation delivery for persons with disabilities in rural Pennsylvania.
