Abstract

The Open Standard for Public Transit (OSPTâ„¢) Alliance is an international association chartered to define a new open technology standard for secure public transit fare collection solutions. The Alliance has created CIPURSE, a new standard rapidly gaining worldwide momentum, which is designed to address the need by local and regional transit authorities for highly secure, future-proof fare collection systems. CIPURSE provides a platform for securing both new and legacy transit fare collection applications, and has the potential to be used within existing application frameworks around the world. In addition to evolving this new standard, the OSPT Alliance acts as a catalyst for promoting the development and adoption of open, innovative collection technologies, applications and services, as well as ensuring that these solutions address the needs of the transit operators, technology suppliers, consultants and integrators, government agencies and mobile product and service providers in the transit fare collection community. This talk will introduce the OSPT Alliance and describe how an open standard approach, such as provided by CIPURSE, addresses the demand by transit authorities for new, sophisticated fare collection systems that offer greater capabilities and convenience
