Abstract

To obtain the aerodynamic characteristics of wings in ground effect, measurements were carried out in a towing tank, or lift and drag for two types of airofoil with low aspect ratio. Theoretical calculations were also made for the same airofoils by a 3-dimensional panel method assuming that the free surface is a rigid wall. It is shown that the lift and lift-drag ratio increase in general, with the decrease of the trailing edge clearance, but the feature is considerably dependent on the shape of the airofoil calculations show fairly good agreement but further studies are required to reduce the quantitative discrepancy between them.
