Abstract
In the preface it is stated that transportation policy should seek what is best in the public interest; that the problem cases presented in this volume are examples of that search, and that they typically involve government agencies, various transportation companies from one or more modes, and a wide range of user and economic groups. Presented first are three problems concerning public works policy--inland waterways and highways. This is followed by a series of problems (two each) for major modes of transportation: Airlines, motor carriers, railroads and deepwater carriers. The first version of the book contains two problems on economic controls and includes a case of tax policy and one on rate regulation.
