Abstract
Techniques are presented describing four measures of security which can significantly improve the protection of data in a critical care setting without adverse effect on system utility. These are 1) The facility provided by VAX/VMS to limit access to files, 2) Automatic logout for selected terminals to avoid unauthorized use, 3) An effective management method for permitting and terminating computer access privilege, and 4) A software-based call-back strategy for dial-up calls.
