Abstract

In recent years, the number of rail tunnels in the Netherlands has been increasing. Legislation on safety measures is under development. For cargo tunnels and high-speed line tunnels, separate safety concepts are under consideration. In Barendrecht, cargo trains, high-speed trains and conventional passenger trains run alongside one another. A station is located in the middle of the passenger tubes. In this paper, special attention is paid to preventive measures that are being taken to minimize the risk of accidents: derailment, collision, fire, explosion, gas leakage, etc. Also, measures to minimize the consequences of accidents are highlighted: self-rescue, drainage system and deluge sprinkler system. (A)
