Abstract
The Orange County, California Intelligent Vehicle/Highway Systems (IVHS) Study has developed a framework under which advanced technologies will be deployed to improve the operation of the County's highway and public transportation system. The study consisted of a review of existing programs, interjurisdictional relationships, an IVHS technology review, an assessment of needs, definition of recommended programs, and an implementation plan which included funding analyses. The scope of the recommended improvements and programs was inclusive of freeways, major and minor arterials, local collector streets, and public transportation facilities. This paper looks at the multi-modal aspect of the strategic plan by focusing on public transportation.
