Abstract
Pore pressure occurs in the soft clay under cyclic loading. This leads to the degradation of soil strength and the collapse of the structure. This paper studied the softening of a normally consolidated soil under cyclic loading by cyclic triaxial tests with stress-control. There are many factors in soil softening. These factors are the cyclic stress ratio, the overconsideration ratio (OCR), and the frequency of cyclic loading. According to test results the degradation index is redefined. A proper mathematics model reflecting strain softening is proposed. The proposed model is verified by comparison of the results of the test with that of the calculation.
