Abstract

This paper investigated the effect of ethanol on the plasma calcitonin (ct) concentrations in 4 women and 5 men. After consumption of low doses of alcohol (10 g per os) blood was obtained at 30 min intervals up to 12 hs. The blood alcohol concentrations (BAC) were determined by gas chromatography. The concentrations of ct were measured by radioimmunoassay. The value of plasma-ct changed after ethanol consumption and climbed up from 100 pg/ml to 260 pg/ml approximately. Our results indicate that also very low blood alcohol content (BAC) can influence the ct-level. (Author/TRRL)
