Abstract

In this part of the evaluation study of the traffic management scheme (TMS) in the City of Groningen the modifications in the behaviour of pedestrians are described. The main purpose of the tms was the increase in the number of visitors to the town centre. During the first period the increase was 8% also due to the new location of the market place and the construction of a pedestrian precinct. New shopping centres were built and old shops were renovated. The number of visitors to areas outside the direct centre decreased. The accessibility of the town centre is better now, according to the visitors interviewed. (TRRL)
