Abstract

The popularity of light rail transit is at an all-time high. Over 170 U.S. cities are currently studying this transportation mode as a possible solution to congested highways and lack of mobility. This paper traces the development of a light rail system in central Florida, beginning with a brief historical description of transportation and transit planning activities in this region. The paper concludes with the current status of the Central Florida Light Rail Transportation Study Project.
