IMPROVED REHABILITATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT CONCRETE PAVEMENT THROUGH PRESTRESSING

Abstract

Rehabilitating portland cement concrete pavements by various methods including overlays is discussed. Problems with current methods of overlaying are identified including reflection cracking. The benefits and methods of prestressing· concrete are addressed. Finally, four methods of applying prestressing to portland cement concrete overlays are suggested.
