A national program to reduce alcohol related traffic accidents

The status of countermeasures to drink driving in Australia is described, with particular reference to convictions for drink driving, and education in schools. It is concluded that efforts being made are inadequate, and that a comprehensive approach involving engineering, pre licence education, detection and reeducation of deviant drivers, school and community education based on an increasing emphasis on health education at tertiary level, and changes in community orientation towards traffic and to alcohol is needed.
