Abstract

Jagorawi toll road is the first toll road in Indonesia and has been operated since March 9th, 1978. This road connects Jakarta, the capital city of Indonesia, to the cities in the southern area such as Bogor, Bandung, etc. This link has now become the busiest rural road in Indonesia. The purpose of constructing this toll road is as an alternative road for reducing traffic congestion in this link. Since the operation in 1978, Jagorawi toll road has made some changes on toll price, i.e., in 1983, 1985 and recently in 1988. This paper explores the changes of traffic volume due to the changes of toll rate. The influence of toll fare changes in relation to the changes in revenue of the Jagorawi toll road is also studied. From the analysis, it is derived that the elasticity factor on the toll fare changes to the traffic volume change is 0.37 for class I vehicles (weight more than 2.5 tons). And the optimum percentage to increase the toll fare is 84.2% for class I vehicles and 92.4% for class II vehicles. For the covering entry of the conference see IRRD 823206. (TRRL)
