Abstract
As development continues to escalate, engineers increasingly are faced with construction projects requiring extensive land-disturbing activities that could leave large tracts of soil barren and denuded of vegetation and hence, prone to erosion. If left unchecked, erosion can cause severe downstream environmental impacts to aquatic habitats and properties, as well as potentially cause structural instability of critical slopes and embankments. Repairing these eroded areas can be as simple as reseeding or as costly as totally re-excavating a site. Effective control is the key to avoiding the high price of erosion. With this in mind, this article provides an overview of rolled erosion control products and the selection of best management practices.
