Passenger information in public transport is increasingly developing into a comprehensive monitoring service for the entire trip. Whether intermodal routing, interactive maps, personalization, real-time information or push services: With the ongoing success of smartphones and tablets and the triumph of mobile internet, passengers discover new needs. Timetable information should be clearly, easily and comfortably retrievable, especially when on the go. Especially real-time data about the vehicles, in particular their current positions, become increasingly popular. If there are any delays, passengers appreciate to be informed about it. Especially commuters assume that their bus or train will be on time and do not actively look up the journey planner twice a day. Compared to the “traditional” way of passengers obtaining real-time information themselves, push services offer a considerably more convenient alternative and added value for commuters: if there are any deviations from the regular schedule, the change in connection will be automatically sent or “pushed” directly to the passenger’s mobile device. The advantages are obvious: once passengers have subscribed to push services, it is no longer necessary for them to search for information – they are always kept up to date on all their travel connections.
