Abstract
In addition to the use of the same car by more than one person at the same time (car pooling), the use of one car by more than one person one after another, can be considered to be a method to decrease car use. This collective car ownership system, known as a 'Call a Car' system, has been operational in Germany and Switzerland over the last few years. The 'Call a Car' feasibility was studied in two directions: (1) its effect on annual kilometer reduction; and (2) the commercial chances of that concept. Based on interviews with potential consumers and producers, together with a questionnaire, recommendations were made for the actual exploitation of a 'Call a Car' system in the Netherlands. For the covering abstract of the conference see IRRD 862276.
