Abstract

Despite the fact that accessibility improvements are being made to transit systems both in the United States and in other countries, people with disabilities, family members and service providers continue to be unaware of all the public transportation options available. People who might have some knowledge regarding the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) paratransit system and requirements are seldom aware of the fixed route systems available in their area. The purpose of this paper is to provide transit agencies with information regarding how to effectively implement an outreach program designed to educate people about public transportation options.
